A parked car has rolled down one of the sloping access roads surrounding Reina de la Sal park in the Los Balcones area of Torrevieja, ending up in a children’s play area. The incident occurred at around 7pm on Tuesday while several children were playing nearby.

According to witnesses, the driver failed to apply the handbrake, causing the foreign-registered vehicle to roll downhill into the playground. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, although the car sustained damage to its rear side and families in the park were left badly shaken.

Reina de la Sal park, opened in 2014, is the largest green space in the Los Balcones urbanisation. Built on a 35,000-square-metre former gully between housing areas, it features extensive sports facilities, including eight pétanque courts, basketball and five-a-side football pitches, mini-football areas, a multi-sports court, outdoor gym equipment and a large dog recreation area.

The park was developed through the Mediterráneo VI Employment Workshop programme, which provided training and jobs for 38 unemployed people over 12 months. The project cost just over 1 million euros, with 60% funded by the regional government through Servef.
