A Northern Irish man accused of shooting dead his friend in Rojales has been sent back to prison after allegedly breaching the conditions of his release. Jonathan Alan S. had been freed on €100,000 bail in December while awaiting trial over the death of fellow Northern Irishman John George Hardy, whose body was found on a lemon farm in January 2025.

The investigating judge in Torrevieja revoked his bail on Friday after prosecutors argued he had contacted the victim’s family despite a strict ban on direct or indirect communication. The court heard he sent a Facebook friend request to one of Mr Hardy’s sisters. The judge described the action as deliberate harassment rather than coincidence.

The ruling also refers to videos allegedly posted on social media in which the accused made threatening remarks, referred to the victim’s family and showed what the judge called a defiant attitude towards the judicial process. In one clip, he claimed he had lived “like a king” in Spanish prisons and suggested he would not be caught.

He was given two days to report voluntarily to prison and entered Villena prison on Sunday. He had previously been detained in Portugal before being extradited to Spain. The wider investigation has also involved other suspects, including a Czech national who was later shot dead in Torrevieja and a British man arrested in Murcia in connection with that killing.
