Torrevieja Council has submitted a formal request to the Government Sub-delegation and Spain’s Interior Ministry, calling for an increase in Guardia Civil officers in the municipality. The council has described the current situation as one of “extremely serious insecurity”.

The move follows a series of recent incidents that have caused concern among residents and visitors. In one case on the town’s seafront, Local Police officers were forced to draw their service weapon while dealing with a man who had caused significant damage, including slashing all four tyres of a patrol vehicle.

The council says it wants to ensure proper support for local security forces and improve surveillance in the busiest parts of Torrevieja. It believes a stronger presence will help prevent further disturbances and reinforce public safety, particularly in crowded public spaces.

The request has now been passed to the relevant national authorities, who will assess whether to increase officer numbers in response to the situation outlined by the council.
