A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly using a frequency jammer to steal from vehicles parked in the city centre. Police believe he is responsible for up to six thefts carried out during March using the same method.

According to investigators, the suspect used a device to block the electronic locking signal as drivers secured their cars. This prevented the vehicles from locking properly, allowing him to enter without forcing doors or windows. Many of the affected cars were high-end models, and none showed visible signs of damage.

Officers launched a surveillance operation in central car parks after noticing the repeated pattern. During the operation, plain-clothed officers saw a man approach a vehicle and enter it without triggering lights or the usual remote unlocking signals. He was stopped immediately.

Police found a glass-breaking hammer and a remote device identified as a frequency jammer during a search. The man was also subject to an outstanding arrest warrant for a similar offence. He has since been brought before a court. Police have advised drivers to check their vehicles are properly locked and to avoid leaving valuables on display.
