A five-month-old baby remains in intensive care after being bitten on the head by a dog in the town of Abanilla over the weekend.
The Civil Guard has opened an investigation to establish the exact circumstances of the attack. Officers have confirmed that the animal involved is considered a potentially dangerous breed under Spanish regulations.
The child was initially treated by emergency services before being transferred to Doctor Balmis Hospital in Alicante. Hospital sources say the baby remains in a serious condition in the intensive care unit.
Investigators are now working to determine how the incident occurred and whether all legal requirements regarding the ownership and control of the dog were being followed.
