Guardamar del Segura Council has applied for a 15-year extension to the concession for Marina Las Dunas, which is due to expire in July after 30 years. The marina is managed by the council’s public company, Madusa, which has submitted an investment plan worth more than five million euros to the Generalitat.

The proposal includes expanding the dry marina, building a new restaurant and a small chill-out pub, upgrading the nautical school and adapting moorings for larger vessels. The number of berths will fall from 485 to 460 to meet growing demand for longer boats. The annual concession fee is expected to rise from 15,000 euros to around 40,000 euros.

To fund the works, berth and service prices are set to increase once the extension is confirmed. Parking at the 400-space site will also change to a pay-by-minute system for non-members. Current prices will remain in place while the concession is in temporary status.

The plan also covers improvements to the Fishermen’s Guild facilities. The marina, located at the mouth of the River Segura, continues to face depth issues caused by sediment, although recent dredging is expected to provide temporary relief.
