Seven people have been arrested in Torrevieja as part of a Guardia Civil investigation into alleged drug trafficking through local cannabis associations.

Officers said the suspects, aged between 19 and 45 and of five different nationalities, operated five associations that appeared to function as non-profit entities but were in fact used as drug sales points. Investigators believe those responsible acted in an organised manner with a clear profit motive.

The operation began in January, when officers reviewed the activities of cannabis associations in the municipality. On 16 March, eight properties were searched simultaneously to prevent the destruction of evidence. Police seized 7.6 kilos of marijuana, 2.8 kilos of hashish, 68 cannabis-filled cigarettes and approximately 4,000 euros in cash.

During the investigation, a minor was allegedly found to be involved in distributing drugs, a matter referred to the judicial authorities. The five associations have been temporarily closed by court order. The seven suspects have been released pending trial, while Local Police identified administrative irregularities at the premises.
