The Guardia Civil has investigated a married couple, aged 52, and their 21-year-old son for allegedly running a drug trafficking operation from a CBD shop in Guardamar del Segura. The investigation began in December after officers noted a significant rise in cannabis use and possession in the town.

Police identified the family business, which sold cannabidiol products, as the suspected source. Although CBD is legal in Spain if it contains less than 0.2% THC, officers believe the shop was selling psychoactive cannabis derivatives disguised as legal products, giving customers a false sense of safety.

During an inspection on 16 March, officers seized 6.55 kilograms of marijuana buds, 815 grams of cannabis resin, 128 marijuana-filled cigarettes and more than 500 euros in cash. A total of 6,815 prepared doses were removed from circulation. The premises were sealed after it was found to lack the proper business licence and documentation.

Preliminary analysis confirmed the presence of cannabis derivatives and other banned psychoactive compounds. The three family members are being investigated for alleged offences against public health and membership of a criminal group. The case has been referred to the judicial authorities.
