Two sections of the seafront promenade between Cala Capitán and La Caleta in Orihuela Costa have been closed for a week after landslides caused by recent heavy rain. Local Police sealed off the affected areas on safety grounds.

The Department of the Coast, led by Manuel Mestre, said a stretch of around 10 metres near the Marejada viewpoint has been fenced off. However, barriers have been displaced and there is little visible warning signage, meaning pedestrians are still using the path. A second area near the Catalejo viewpoint has been cordoned off with tape and a small warning notice, but remains open to foot traffic.

The council has requested the necessary authorisation from the coastal authorities to begin repair works and is awaiting a response. The timing is significant, with Easter approaching and visitor numbers expected to rise.

The promenade forms part of the Cabo Roig Blue Trail, a quality designation awarded in 2021 and renewed annually for meeting environmental, educational and infrastructure standards. The 2.5 km route, known for its geological features, biodiversity and views of the Mediterranean, is one of the best-rated coastal walks in the south of the province.
