Two people have been arrested after officers seized drugs, weapons and cash during a joint operation in Albatera, Alicante province.

The Guardia Civil and Albatera Local Police carried out a preventive checkpoint in the early hours of 17 February, targeting vehicles and individuals potentially linked to drug trafficking. Officers stopped a car carrying a 49-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman. Neither occupant owned the vehicle, and the woman was unable to provide identification.

During a search of the car, officers found a backpack containing around 40 grams of methamphetamine, confirmed by a rapid test. They also discovered a piece of hashish, two knives – one bearing traces of the seized substance – 36 sildenafil tablets in five packets, a precision scale and 770 euros in cash.

The driver tested positive for methamphetamine and now faces an administrative fine of 1,000 euros and the loss of six driving licence points. The vehicle was impounded. Both suspects were arrested on suspicion of drug trafficking and later released with precautionary measures by the investigating court. Police say the operation forms part of ongoing efforts to combat street-level drug dealing and improve public safety.
