Orihuela Council has awarded a contract for the supply, installation and commissioning of four electric bicycle parking units in key locations across the municipality. The move forms part of the town’s strategy to promote more sustainable mobility and improve services linked to tourism.

The new facilities will be installed at the UMH campus in Desamparados, the UMH campus in Salesas, Orihuela train station and the El Palmeral sports centre. The aim is to encourage the use of electric bicycles in areas with high footfall and strong transport links.

Each installation will consist of a secure, enclosed and covered modular storage system with automatic access. The units will operate independently using solar kits with photovoltaic panels and will have capacity for ten bicycles each, providing space for 40 in total.

The contract has been awarded to Servicios Urbanos Avanzados SL for 164,983.50 euros, with a maximum completion period of three months. Tourism councillor Gonzalo Montoya has said the project marks another step towards more environmentally friendly transport and better infrastructure for residents and visitors.
