Santa Pola Town Council has unanimously approved the start of the tender process for the construction and future operation of a new municipal swimming pool and sports residence. The decision was taken on Tuesday at an extraordinary council meeting, after the public consultation period for the viability study and initial project passed without objections.

The project will complete the long-pending municipal pool and add an adjoining building to house athletes, forming part of a wider future sports complex for the town. The concession will cover both construction and the subsequent operation of the centre and residence.

Deputy Mayor José Pedro Martínez has said the council is making steady progress in what he described as a complex procedure, adding that officials are acting with great care to ensure legal certainty for both the authority and the successful company. The tender documents will include a tariff study alongside the contract conditions, and he stressed that the pool will remain for public use.

Mayor Loreto Serrano welcomed the unanimous backing, saying it strengthens a project that will continue beyond the current municipal term. She added that it is vital the initiative has cross-party support, as it will involve future administrations and allow residents to benefit from the new facilities.
