Rojales Town Hall has brought a newly acquired mobile speed camera into operation from Monday, in response to complaints from residents about excessive speeding on local roads. The council said some reckless drivers had been travelling above the limits through the municipality.

Until now, the council had relied on speed bumps to slow traffic. However, officials said these measures had also created problems, particularly noise from passing vehicles, which disturbed nearby residents at night.

In the coming days, “speed controlled by radar” warning signs will be installed to meet legal requirements. For the moment, areas under control will be signposted only during enforcement periods. The council says the aim is to raise awareness and reduce accidents, as speeding remains a leading cause of collisions.

The Town Hall has not disclosed the minimum fine for speeding or the cost of the device, and the purchase contract does not appear on the national public procurement portal. Although images show tests carried out on roads outside the urban centre, Local Police are legally permitted to use the radar only within town limits, while regional and state roads fall under the authority of the Guardia Civil’s traffic division.
