The Guardia Civil has returned a gold chain to a Torrevieja resident after it was stolen in a daylight robbery in the Alicante province.

The theft took place near Curva del Palangre, where a woman allegedly used the so-called ‘hug’ method to remove the chain while the man was walking. A witness recorded the incident on a mobile phone, providing footage that proved crucial to the police investigation.

Officers quickly gathered information about the vehicle used to flee the scene and set up a search operation. Two patrols stationed at one of the town’s exits stopped the suspect vehicle minutes later. After confirming that the car and its occupants matched the witness description, officers carried out a search.

The gold chain was found in the woman’s trouser pocket. Both she and a man were arrested on suspicion of theft and later brought before a court, which released them with precautionary measures. The victim has thanked officers and members of the public for their assistance in recovering the jewellery.
