Firefighters have contained a blaze that broke out outside an industrial unit in Bigastro on Tuesday afternoon.
The incident happened at kilometre 7.5 of the CV-95, near the town cemetery. Emergency services received the alert at 15:26. According to the Provincial Fire Consortium, the fire started when a controlled burn of garden waste got out of control and spread to accumulated rubbish, including plastics and tyres.
Crews from the Orihuela fire station attended the scene, deploying a command unit, a heavy urban pump and a heavy water tanker. The operation involved a sergeant, a corporal and six firefighters. They worked to contain the flames to the exterior perimeter, preventing damage to the main structure of the industrial building.
The fire was brought under control by 18:10. No injuries were reported. Local Police officers also assisted firefighters during the incident.
