The Alicante Provincial Council has reopened the refurbished SUMA tax office on Calle Patricio Pérez in central Torrevieja. The project, with an estimated budget of around €300,000, has converted the premises into a single 266 m² space dedicated to tax services. The office reopened to the public on Monday after works that began on 20 October 2025.

The refurbishment addressed three main issues: architectural barriers at the entrance, outdated technical installations and a layout that no longer met demand for face-to-face services. A new access ramp with a maximum 12% gradient has been installed, internal level differences removed and all electrical, plumbing, drainage and air conditioning systems replaced.

The redesigned office includes 24 staff workstations, nine service counters capable of assisting 18 people at once, and a waiting area with seating for 16. There is also a meeting room, accessible toilets, archive space and a staff break area. Maximum occupancy is set at 64 people.

During the works, SUMA operated from temporary premises provided by Torrevieja Town Hall. The office manages key municipal taxes, including IBI, vehicle tax and business rates, and handles a significant volume of revenue for the council each year.
