A municipal street-cleaning vehicle has struck the terrace of a pizzeria in Calle del Mar, at the junction with Ramón Gallud, in central Torrevieja. The incident happened on Sunday afternoon, close to the Virgen del Carmen cultural centre, according to the Provincial Fire Consortium.

The vehicle caught the terrace awning, leaving part of the structure unstable. Although the restaurant was busy inside, there were no customers seated outside at the time, partly due to windy weather conditions. Emergency services confirmed that no one was injured and alcohol was not involved.

Firefighters cordoned off the area between 8.00 pm and 8.39 pm and partially dismantled the damaged terrace to remove the risk of collapse and protect pedestrians. The incident occurred while the Grand Carnival Parade and Competition was under way nearby, attracting thousands of spectators along streets that included the accident location.

No further damage was reported, avoiding disruption to celebrations that Torrevieja hopes will gain National Tourist Interest status, following its regional recognition in 2021.
