The Orihuela town council has begun the tendering process for the renovation of public lighting in Orihuela Costa, with a budget of four hundred and sixteen thousand two hundred and twelve euros and forty-one cents, including value-added tax. This initiative aims to replace outdated lighting systems with modern, energy-efficient solutions while addressing safety concerns in various locations along the coast.

The project involves the replacement of over two hundred old luminaires with the latest generation of light emitting diode technology. Additionally, new galvanised steel, cast iron, and glass fibre reinforced polyester columns will be installed. The improvements will also include the replacement of damaged columns and fixtures, as well as the renewal of electrical systems that power the lighting.

By installing high-efficiency LED luminaires, which will vary in power between forty and one hundred and six watts, the project seeks to significantly reduce light pollution. Moreover, the intervention will address recurring failures in the lighting system and optimise maintenance, thereby enhancing the illumination of streets, promenades, and residential areas.

The execution time for the project is set at three months from the signing of the preliminary act. Víctor Valverde, the councillor for Infrastructure, expressed that this tender reflects the government team’s commitment to refreshing the basic infrastructures along the coast to meet the efficiency standards already implemented in the urban centre. Meanwhile, Manuel Mestre, the councillor for the Coast, emphasised that these efforts are part of a broader strategy to modernise services and maintenance in Orihuela Costa.
