Pilar de la Horadada is set to enhance its waste collection systems with the introduction of a comprehensive upgrade involving the complete replacement of its blue and yellow recycling bins. This initiative, which includes two hundred and twenty new containers for both paper and cardboard as well as for plastics and packaging, will significantly improve the local recycling infrastructure. A new side-loading truck with a capacity of twenty-six cubic metres will also be deployed, tripling the current collection capacity.

The upgrade will commence from the coastal area, followed by the regions of Pinar de Campoverde, Lo Romero, and La Cañada, before reaching the residential areas and finally the urban centre of Pilar de la Horadada. STV Gestión, the company responsible for this service, has emphasised the benefits of the new system, which aims to reduce noise pollution, traffic issues, and other disturbances, thanks to the agility and efficiency of the new vehicle.

Pedro Miguel Moya, the councillor for the Environment, stated that these changes are designed to improve service levels and allow residents to recycle more effectively, thus contributing to environmental protection. Moya expressed confidence in increasing recycling rates in the town and encouraged residents to participate, highlighting the collective benefits of improved recycling practices.

The annual cost of street cleaning and solid waste collection for the town council amounts to five million two hundred and eighty-three thousand fifty-nine euros and eighty-six cents. This financial investment underlines the commitment of the local government to sustainable waste management and environmental safeguarding.
