A Scottish man has been taken to hospital in Valencia following a stabbing incident that occurred in the city centre. Reports indicate that a passerby attacked him with a screwdriver just before four o’clock in the morning on Saturday, October twenty-fifth. The assault happened in the Plaza de Ayuntamiento after the victim refused to give the suspect a cigarette, leaving him with a punctured lung.

The police were alerted to the scene after a nearby woman, believed to be from Uruguay, called for help. Officers arrived promptly, detaining a forty-five year old man who was still present. This individual is suspected to have a criminal record and reportedly exhibited altered mental faculties at the time of the arrest.

The victim, described as a young man, was transported to Doctor Peset University Hospital. His current condition remains unknown. A Basic Life Support ambulance was also dispatched to assist on the scene shortly after the incident occurred. This stabbing is part of a concerning trend of clashes between tourists and locals in Valencia and throughout Spain.

Earlier this month, tensions rose in the city as locals confronted Dutch cyclists at a riding event, resulting in chaos in Valencia’s historic district. The ongoing protests against an increasing number of tourists have sparked friction between residents and visitors in several cities including San Sebastian, Granada, Barcelona, and Palma, with demonstrators utilising water pistols during various protests.
