The Hospital Universitário de Torrevieja has announced the recent renovation of one hundred hospital beds as part of an extensive infrastructure modernisation. The total investment for this upgrade stands at three hundred and nine thousand eight hundred and nineteen euros, which includes tax. This upgrade represents approximately forty per cent of the total beds in the hospital, which accommodates more than two hundred and seventy, inclusive of various special areas such as Intensive Care, Psychiatry, and Paediatrics.

The newly refurbished beds are equipped with advanced ergonomic systems designed for enhanced mobility and pressure sore prevention, aimed at improving both patient comfort and the working conditions for healthcare staff. Additionally, four high-tech critical care beds have been added to the Intensive Care Unit, bolstering the hospital’s capacity to respond to complex clinical situations while maintaining the same service level.

The Hospital Universitário de Torrevieja, after transitioning back to direct public management from a private concession, upholds the individual room model for general admissions, ensuring each room is typically equipped with a bed for the patient and another for an accompanying family member. In the previous year, the hospital reported a total of fourteen thousand one hundred and sixty-three admissions, slightly lower than the figure from the preceding year, which stood at fourteen thousand five hundred and twenty-one.

The health department served a protected population of two hundred and fifteen thousand five hundred and fifty-eight residents in 2024, reflecting an increase of over eight thousand compared to the prior year. This demographic has a significant proportion of older adults and foreign residents, leading to heightened healthcare demands. The department’s total budget reached two hundred and thirty-three million euros, with half allocated to personnel expenses, expanding the workforce to two thousand two hundred and six employees.
