The Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla has announced that due to significant rainfall in the Mar Menor and Campo de Cartagena regions, there has been substantial infiltration of runoff water into one of its supply channels. This situation has resulted in various quality indicator violations, as stipulated by Royal Decree three of two thousand and twenty-three that governs the technical and health criteria for drinking water quality.

The declaration affects water supplies in the municipalities of San Javier, Los Alcázares, and San Pedro del Pinatar, as well as in the Murcian districts of Baños, Mendigo, Lobosillo, and Avileses. Additionally, several districts and hamlets in Torre Pacheco including El Jimenado, Roldán, Balsicas, and others are also impacted. As a precaution, the water is deemed unfit for human consumption until further notice.

Health authorities are advising residents not to consume tap water during this episode. It is recommended that bottled water be used for drinking, cooking, and personal hygiene. The use of tap water is restricted to general cleaning activities that do not involve surfaces in contact with food.

Currently, technicians from the Mancomunidad de los Canales del Taibilla are actively working to rectify the situation as soon as possible. Their actions include cleaning and maintaining the affected supply channel, along with intensifying water quality control measures.
