The Instituto Municipal de Cultura ‘Joaquín Chapaprieta’ has scheduled auditions for a choir to perform the renowned ‘Carmina Burana’ composed by Carl Orff. This production is set to premiere in March twenty twenty-six. To select the choir, two auditions will take place: the first on Thursday, the second of October at eight o’clock in the evening, at the Teatro Municipal de Torrevieja located at Plaza de Miguel Hernández, three, and the second on Monday, the sixth of October at eight o’clock in the evening at AFOMUC, Carrer del Convent, one in El Campello, Alicante.

‘Carmina Burana’ is a well-known choral work composed between nineteen thirty-five and thirty-six, with its premiere occurring in nineteen thirty-seven in Frankfurt. The title derives from a medieval manuscript discovered in the Benediktbeuern monastery in Bavaria in eighteen hundred and three, which houses over two hundred poems and songs from the twelfth and thirteenth centuries, primarily in Latin but also in Old High German and French.

Carl Orff selected twenty-four poems from the manuscript and organised them into a cantata for choir, soloists, and orchestra, showcasing a remarkable rhythmic and sonic power. The piece is famously recognised for its opening and closing chorus ‘O Fortuna,’ one of the most universally identifiable musical fragments. It is structured into five major sections: Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi, Primo Vere, In Taberna, Cour d’Amours, and a reprise of ‘O Fortuna.’

The texts reflect themes of fate, the changing of the seasons, nature, the joy of wine, gambling, critique of the medieval church, and especially, love and desire. The work conveys a zestful and festive spirit, contrasting sharply with the rigid religious doctrines of the medieval era.
