Residents in Dehesa de Campoamor, located in Orihuela Costa, are calling on the local council to take action on environmental concerns affecting their area. They are specifically urging the cleaning of the ramblas that flow through the urban environment of the Río Nacimiento and Barranco Rubio. The Costa Campoamor residents’ association has submitted a formal request to both the coastal and environmental departments, as well as to the Confederación Hidrográfica del Segura, following a collaboration agreement worth eight hundred thousand euros for the maintenance of the waterways.

After numerous complaints, the residents have highlighted the danger posed by the state of neglect, lack of maintenance, and accumulation of rubbish, which they believe puts homes at risk. They have pointed out that the overgrowth and litter obstruct visibility to the watercourse, creating a potential hazard for over two hundred and fifty homes situated along the rambla, extending from the N-332 to the Roman bridge.

The residents insist that the current condition may lead to severe consequences for their property and safety in the event of uncontrolled flooding. Furthermore, they have raised an additional concern regarding the cleaning of the Campoamor pinewood, which has become overgrown with weeds, dry brush, and fallen pine trees, thus increasing the risk of fire in the surrounding residential areas.

The local association notes that more than five hundred residences are located within this section of the pinewood, including two hundred and fifty in Altos de Campoamor, one hundred and ten in Montemar, and one hundred and seventy in El Pinar de Campoamor. The residents fear that if a fire were to occur, it would complicate evacuation efforts, particularly for those living within the pinewood’s central areas.
