The Valencian Community’s Department of Education, Culture, Universities, and Employment has officially designated Torrevieja as the Cultural Capital of Valencia for two thousand and twenty-five, specifically for municipalities with populations exceeding five thousand. This honour reflects the city’s outstanding performance among the submitted applications, allowing it to become the cultural epicentre of the Valencia region.

This recognition aims to increase visibility and decentralise culture, making it more accessible across different territories while promoting universal access. It also seeks to stimulate economic activity linked to cultural tourism. As a cultural benchmark, Torrevieja will enhance its profile as a tourist destination with this designation.

The cultural capital status will be accompanied by a special programme that underscores the city’s commitment to using culture as a tool for social cohesion and economic development. Various cultural initiatives will be organised by the Department throughout twenty twenty-five, culminating in an official ceremony to present the recognition.

Moreover, the Cultural Capital of Valencia title allows for the use of the designation in cultural programming and institutional promotion of Torrevieja until the results of the subsequent competition are announced in twenty twenty-six. This title will also help foster cultural, business, and tourist projects linked to arts, music, heritage, and performing arts, ensuring a lasting impact on both the city and its surrounding area.
