A tragic incident occurred over the weekend, resulting in the death of a seventy-one-year-old woman in a traffic accident in Cartagena. The accident, which took place near the Cabezo Beaza industrial estate, involved a vehicle driven by her seventy-five-year-old husband. He has been transported to Santa Lucía Hospital, where he is reported to be in serious condition.

The local police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which happened at approximately three thirty in the afternoon. According to municipal sources, the couple’s car was travelling on the San Félix road when it veered off the roadway for reasons that are currently being examined.

The woman’s body has been sent to the Institute of Legal Medicine for an autopsy. Tragically, the incident adds to the growing list of road fatalities in the region. Last year, forty-eight residents lost their lives on the roads, and two hundred and fifty-one were hospitalised with serious injuries, many of which were permanent.

As of September seventeenth of this year, forty-two people have already died in traffic accidents, and two hundred and three individuals have sustained serious injuries, according to statistics from the General Traffic Directorate. The community is urged to remain vigilant and prioritise safety on the roads.
