The local council of Santa Pola has announced the immediate closure of Gran Playa following the detection of a diesel spill in the water. This action aims to protect bathers and minimise the environmental impact in the area. Access to bathing has been prohibited as cleaning teams engage in work to contain and remove the fuel from the maritime surface.
Gran Playa is one of the most popular beaches in the region, and the decision to close it comes during the peak season when visitor numbers are typically high. The council has indicated that their top priority is to restore normality as soon as possible and ensure the safety of beachgoers.
Officials are working diligently to address the situation and have urged both locals and visitors to keep away from the affected area until all cleaning operations have been concluded. The council remains committed to ensuring a swift resolution to this emergency as they monitor the situation closely.
