The Guardia Civil has arrested a forty-year-old woman and her nineteen-year-old son-in-law in connection with drug trafficking at a property in Orihuela Costa. An eighteen-year-old daughter has been charged with child abandonment. The arrests follow an investigation initiated in July when local authorities became aware of potential drug sales in the area.

The operation, named Pinax, saw officers locate the residence where three adults, including the grandmother, her daughter, and her daughter’s partner, lived with a minor. Investigators found evidence that the son-in-law was distributing drugs locally while the grandmother planned to transport a larger amount concealed in a baby carriage.

On the twenty-ninth of July, after returning from Granada, authorities executed a search warrant at the residence. It was discovered that the property lacked water and electricity, and the minor was found in distressing conditions. During the search, the officers seized five point one three seven kilograms of hashish, leading to the detention of both the grandmother and the son-in-law.

Due to the situation involving the minor, the mother now faces allegations of child abandonment. La Guardia Civil has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking while also protecting vulnerable groups, emphasising that public safety is intertwined with the dignity and wellbeing of individuals.
