The town of Elche has seen a notable rise in recycling figures, particularly regarding packaging waste. In the past month, the selective collection service has reported a record-breaking collection of over two hundred and eighty tonnes of packaging during July. This represents a three per cent increase in the average amount collected compared to the previous year, which saw close to three thousand tonnes removed from the yellow recycling bins that are designated for such materials.

Since the waste collection service was launched by UTE Elche in two thousand and twenty-one, there has been a continuous upward trend in recycling. In the first year of the service, two thousand four hundred and seventy-eight tonnes were collected, demonstrating a clear commitment from the community towards sustainability.

Currently, Elche has eight hundred and sixty-five yellow containers strategically placed throughout the urban area and its surrounding districts. These containers are designated for various types of used packaging that has either conserved, protected, or transported products, including but not limited to juice cartons, plastic trays, disposable cutlery, and bottles for water, juice, milk, and various sauces.

Additionally, metal packaging such as deodorant cans, aerosols, and food tins, as well as aluminium and plastic wrappers, are also accepted in these bins. The consistent growth in recycling figures reflects an increased awareness of environmental issues among residents of Elche.
