A doctor, aged fifty-nine, has been arrested in the province of Alicante on allegations of filming patients without their consent during medical examinations. The individual, who has no prior criminal record for similar offences, has been placed at the disposal of the judiciary as a suspect for a continuing crime of the discovery and revelation of secrets. The investigation was triggered by an anonymous complaint from a healthcare worker who reported that the doctor was caught using a spy device disguised as a car key to attempt to record images of a patient during a consultation.

The investigation commenced in early July after the whistleblower’s alert. Given the serious nature of the allegations, the case was then taken over by the Territorial Police Judicial Team of San Juan, which initiated measures to identify the suspect and assess the full extent of his actions. On the eleventh of August, authorities arrested the doctor as he approached his workplace and seized two hidden recording devices that were configured to covertly capture images.

A subsequent search of his home revealed three more similar devices and a significant amount of computer material, the contents of which are currently being analysed by investigators. At present, the Guardia Civil has identified two victims; however, they do not rule out the possibility that more may emerge as the analysis of the seized material progresses. There are indications that the suspect may have been illicitly recording patients for at least three years.

Following his arrest and the seizure of evidence, the doctor was placed at the disposal of the Alicante Court of Justice, which has granted him conditional release while further investigations continue.
