The Guardia Civil has successfully dismantled a criminal gang comprised of four individuals from Los Alcázares, Murcia. The group is believed to have been involved in multiple violent robberies and thefts within the municipality. The operation, identified as ‘Cofilatón’, commenced in February after an attempted armed robbery at a caravan in Los Narejos, where the assailants were unable to complete the theft due to resistance from the victims.

Following this, further incidents occurred, including an assault on a young man in his car by a hooded figure wielding a firearm. The attack, which resulted in the victim being struck in the head, highlighted the growing concerns regarding violence in the area. Investigators from the Guardia Civil’s Judicial Police initiated a thorough investigation, gathering victim statements and analysing surveillance footage to track the stolen mobile phone, which eventually led to the identification of a key suspect and his associates.

Through their investigative efforts, authorities discovered that the gang operated in a coordinated manner, although the leader often acted independently in more violent incidents. Several operational devices were set up in collaboration with the Local Police of Los Alcázares to apprehend the suspects. The climax of the operation occurred when a fight broke out in an industrial estate, leading to the arrest of the primary suspect, who was found with injuries inflicted by a sharp object.

The inquiry revealed that the criminal group engaged in various thefts, including home burglaries and bicycle thefts, and they were also linked to more violent crimes involving intimidation. The four alleged gang members now face numerous charges, including robbery with force, robbery with violence, theft, making threats, illegal possession of firearms, unlawful detention, assault, and belonging to a criminal organisation.
