The State Meteorological Agency has issued a severe heat warning for this weekend, forecasting extremely high temperatures across the region. On Saturday, areas such as Orihuela may reach a maximum of forty-two degrees Celsius, with other cities like Elche and Villena close behind at forty-one and forty-point-eight degrees respectively. Residents are urged to take necessary precautions, especially those with vulnerable health conditions, including children and the elderly.

An orange alert will be in effect for the northern coastline, encompassing Marina Alta, the northern part of Marina Baixa, and parts of El Comtat, while a yellow alert has been designated for the rest of the region. For today, there is also a yellow alert in place along the northern and southern coasts with projected highs of thirty-six degrees Celsius.

The temperatures are expected to remain high on Sunday, though slightly lower than Saturday. Forecasts predict maximum temperatures of forty-one-point-seven degrees in Orihuela and forty degrees in Villena. The agency has recommended that residents pay close attention over the next few days due to potential health impacts and the heightened risk of forest fires.

Despite cooler conditions at the start of August, this ongoing heatwave is set to make the first three weeks of the month the hottest in the Comunitat Valenciana since at least nineteen fifty. As temperatures are expected to drop slightly on Monday, more instability and possible storms may develop in the interior, contributing to a highly adverse situation for potential forest fires due to both heat and local storm activity.
