Firefighters from the Torrevieja park responded early this morning to control a fire that broke out in a private sauna within a ground floor residential property located in the San Luis-El Chaparral urbanisation. The emergency call was received shortly after one fifteen AM, indicating that the house itself was ablaze. However, upon arrival and inspection, the firefighters discovered that the fire was actually originating from an external sauna.

The firefighters encountered a sauna engulfed in flames, producing a significant amount of smoke. They had to exercise caution to extinguish the fire, as they detected a phenomenon known as flashover, which can occur in confined spaces. Flashover entails the simultaneous ignition of all combustible materials due to heat accumulation and the presence of hot gases, leading to dangerously elevated temperatures.

To manage the situation, firefighters acted strategically, opening and closing doors promptly to control the flames and smoke. Initial investigations suggest that the fire may have been triggered by the excessive accumulation of heat due to a malfunction in the heating system, a log stove, or possibly a short circuit, as ongoing renovations were taking place within the property.

All available personnel from the Torrevieja Fire Consortium responded to the incident, including a heavy pump and a ladder truck. Their swift action prevented the situation from escalating further.
