The maritime rescue service Salvamento Marítimo has delivered a new vessel, LS Moraga, to Cruz Roja. This vessel will operate from the San Pedro del Pinatar base and marks the first of four new boats set to be introduced over the coming months.
The delivery ceremony was attended by María José Vera, the regional director of Cruz Roja, and Sergio Rodríguez Carbonell, the head of the Salvamento Marítimo Coordination Centre in Cartagena.
The name LS Moraga was suggested by students from CEIP Ciudad del Mar in Águilas. It means ‘to grill fresh fish’, commonly done on the beach during summer. Fishermen use the term in their daily activities when preparing fish in this manner.
Under a framework cooperation agreement with Salvamento Marítimo, Cruz Roja manages a total of forty-four vessels along the Spanish coastline, including some owned by Cruz Roja itself and others by Salvamento Marítimo, like the LS Moraga.
