A heavy goods vehicle driver has been intercepted by the Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia after recorded driving that exceeded the legal alcohol limit by six times. The incident occurred on the A-30 motorway, which connects Albacete to Cartagena, near Torre Pacheco. Concerned motorists alerted authorities about the dangerously erratic driving behaviour of the vehicle.

Upon receiving the alerts, several traffic patrols from the Guardia Civil swiftly arrived at the scene to investigate. They managed to halt traffic to prevent a potential accident and guided the heavy vehicle to a nearby area for interception. There, officers observed the driver’s unsafe conduct, also corroborated by recordings from witnesses.

The driver, a forty-seven-year-old man residing in Castellón de la Plana and travelling from Valencia to Cartagena, underwent a breathalyser test. He registered an alcohol level of zero point nine one milligrams per litre in the first test and zero point nine seven milligrams per litre in the second. These results indicate levels six times higher than the legal limit of zero point one five milligrams per litre for professional drivers.

The Guardia Civil has initiated an investigation and charged the driver with two offences against road safety: one for reckless driving and another for exceeding legal alcohol limits. Such offences, according to the current Penal Code, can result in prison sentences of six months to two years, along with driving bans ranging from one to six years.
