The San Javier wastewater treatment plant has undergone significant upgrades aimed at enhancing its capabilities for reusing urban water. The improved system now includes advanced technologies for the treatment of ozonate, oxygen, and radiation, enabling the plant to disinfect an amount equivalent to forty per cent of an Olympic swimming pool in just one hour.

This enhancement not only optimises the treatment capacity but also elevates the quality of recycled water that can be used for irrigation. Ensuring that the recycled water meets higher standards makes it suitable for agricultural use, thereby providing greater guarantees for urban water reuse.

In the event of emergencies, the plant will also be able to discharge treated water back into the Mediterranean Sea under improved conditions. This feature is particularly crucial for maintaining environmental standards and protecting marine ecosystems.

The upgrades reflect a commitment to sustainable water management practices in the region, addressing the pressing need for effective solutions in water conservation and recycling amidst growing urban demands.
