The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia has proposed sanctions for the owners of three abandoned vessels discovered in the Mar Menor. Among them is a two-masted sailboat found derelict off Punta Brava beach. Additionally, three other boats were found sunken near the Los Nietos Marina.

These abandoned vessels pose a significant risk, violating several maritime regulations aimed at preserving the marine environment. The International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea necessitate that vessels maintain proper lighting and marking systems, which these derelict boats fail to meet.

Moreover, the owners of sunken vessels are responsible for ensuring proper signalling and buoyancy to prevent environmental contamination. The absence of maintenance can lead to accidental discharges of hydrocarbons and other pollutants, endangering both marine life and swimmers.

Throughout the summer, the Guardia Civil plans to intensify surveillance along the Murcia coastline to protect ecosystems, prevent illegal fishing, and ensure the safety of beachgoers and those engaged in maritime activities.
