The Guardia Civil in the Region of Murcia has concluded an investigation into a case of alleged identity theft involving a woman from Torre Pacheco. This inquiry identified a relative of the victim as the suspected perpetrator of identity usurpation and document forgery. The investigation was prompted when the victim reported receiving several notifications from the Directorate General of Traffic regarding alleged violations associated with a vehicle registered in her name.

The victim stated that she did not possess the vehicle in question and was unaware of the reasoning behind the fines of nearly five thousand euros. After the complaint, the Guardia Civil discovered that the car was indeed registered under her name, indicating that a transfer of ownership occurred online. To clarify the situation, investigators summoned the victim again to ask if she had ever lost her identity document or allowed anyone access to it. She confirmed that her ID had always been in her possession.

Months later, authorities learned that another vehicle was attempting to be registered in the victim’s name. Subsequent analysis of the evidence led to the conclusion that a family member had exploited a moment of carelessness to take a photograph of the victim’s identity document.

Recently, a fifty-four-year-old man has been located and is being investigated as the alleged suspect in the identity usurpation and document forgery crimes. The investigation highlights the importance of safeguarding personal documents to prevent identity theft.
