A sixty-five-year-old man tragically lost his life while swimming at La AzohÃa beach in Cartagena on Saturday. The drowning incident occurred despite the presence of a red flag, indicating that swimming was prohibited. Witnesses reported that the man was discovered face down in the water, apparently unconscious.
Beachgoers quickly came to his aid, pulling him from the water before calling for emergency assistance. Upon arrival, healthcare personnel performed resuscitation efforts; unfortunately, they could only confirm his death.
Local police units and Protección Civil of Cartagena were dispatched to the scene to investigate the incident further. Authorities have reiterated the importance of adhering to beach safety warnings, especially during dangerous swimming conditions.
This tragedy serves as a crucial reminder for all beach visitors to remain vigilant and heed the warnings posted by lifeguards and local authorities to ensure safety at sea.
