Orihuela Costa has launched its new public road maintenance service, which began operations effectively yesterday. The initiative, undertaken by the municipal company Servicios de Gestión Medioambiental de Orihuela SL, is backed by a budget of six point six million euros over the next five years. This service aims to respond to the numerous complaints from locals regarding inadequate road care and maintenance.

During the formal presentation, Mayor Pepe Vegara, along with council members, emphasised the importance of this service for the community. It will employ twenty-three workers, who will be organised into teams focusing on quick interventions and preventive maintenance measures. This change follows a hiatus in service when the previous contractor declined to extend its contract.

The new service will also benefit from an additional five hundred sixty thousand euros for materials, beyond what was previously provided by the municipality. This funding will facilitate the acquisition of necessary supplies, including curbs, paint, and signage, enabling immediate improvements.

The Mayor assured residents that they would soon notice significant enhancements in road maintenance. Council Member Manuel Mestre referred to this development as a considerable advance and expects visible results for the community by the end of the year.
