The Guardia Civil has initiated an investigation following an attack on a seventy-year-old man in Torre Pacheco. The incident occurred early on Wednesday morning near the local cemetery when the victim, who was out for a walk, was assaulted by a group of young individuals. Remarkably, he stated that the attack seemed gratuitous as nothing was stolen from him.

Medical assistance was required, with the injured man receiving treatment at a health centre. After his release, he reported the attack, perplexed by the random nature of the violence he experienced.

Mayor Pedro Ángel Roca has engaged in discussions with Government delegate Mariola Guevara, advocating for a significant increase in the Guardia Civil staffing in the area. He stressed the urgent necessity for legislative reform in security laws, suggesting that current measures are too lenient towards offenders.

Roca emphasised that local law enforcement and the regional government alone cannot address these challenges, stating that real solutions depend on the actions of lawmakers in Madrid. The Guardia Civil has vowed to implement a special operation to swiftly locate the assailants.
