Torrevieja has initiated a traffic control scheme to manage congestion in the city centre during the summer months, specifically between July and August. This plan restricts vehicle access to busy waterfront areas when underground car parks, including Vista Alegre and Marina Salinas, reach full capacity. The local police will enforce the access restrictions using barriers and warning lights to help alleviate traffic during peak times, particularly from seven thirty in the evening until past midnight.

The scheme aims to minimise disruption caused by the influx of vehicles heading to popular promenades and terraces during summer evenings. Residents and visitors can expect more fluid traffic flow as police guide cars towards alternative parking options, including El Arco and the newly opened car park in the area of the old Mercadona supermarket.

Despite the increase in parking spaces, the new urban layout has reduced road capacity in many areas, including Avenida de La Libertad, now limited to one lane in each direction. The local authorities have also introduced no-parking regulations along Calle Ramón Gallud from five in the afternoon until nine in the next morning to further optimise traffic flow amidst the estimated five thousand daily vehicles navigating the area.

In addition to the traffic measures, the town hall is progressing with preparations for a regulated parking scheme, or blue zone, which will operate in tandem with the new Low Emission Zone. This initiative is still under study, as officials have yet to disclose specific areas affected, but it is expected to align with existing traffic regulations already common in other municipalities in the province.
