The Directorate General for Water, part of the Ministry of Environment, has given the green light for swimming to resume at Cala Cerrada beach in La Zenia. The authority had temporarily closed the beach for two days because of water contamination linked to residual sources. This decision followed the detection of contamination earlier this week on Wednesday.

After the initial closure, the Directorate General conducted an additional water sample analysis to assess quality following clean-up efforts to eliminate the pollution. The recent results indicated that water parameters are now compliant with the standards set by the regional administration.

Due to this positive analysis, the local council has announced the reopening of the beach to the public for swimming. In the latest report from the Ministry of Environment, the beach received a sufficient rating in quality assessments. The visual appearance and cleanliness of the water, however, were classified as ‘excellent’.

Out of the eleven beaches in Orihuela, six have achieved an excellent rating across all three quality indicators this week, reflecting strong adherence to health and environmental standards during the busy summer season.
