The Mar Menor area faces rising concerns as the Cartagena Maritime Authority reports thirty two complaints in just one day regarding unauthorized moorings. This spike in complaints is linked to a resurgence of summer festivities in hotspots like the Ciervo Island, prompting local authorities to take action. Captain Óscar Villar has warned that total complaints could surpass four hundred by the end of the season.

The enforcement measures include fines ranging from five hundred to one thousand five hundred euros for violations. Residents are particularly alarmed by gatherings of party boats, loud music, and the increasing presence of jet skis, which disturb the tranquillity of the area.

Littering along the shores has also become a significant issue as these gatherings leave debris in their wake. The local community is calling for more stringent regulations to protect the delicate environment of the Mar Menor and to ensure respectful behaviour from visitors this summer.

Efforts are underway to address the situation, with the Maritime Authority actively processing the complaints to enforce compliance and safeguard the region’s natural beauty.
