The tourist occupation rate in the province of Alicante has reached eighty four point one percent for the month of May, as per the final figures released by the Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Apartments. This shows a growth of one point two percentage points compared to the same month last year, reinforcing the upward trend in tourism activity in the region. Notably, the city of Alicante recorded an impressive eighty eight point two percent occupancy, while Playa de San Juan achieved the highest figure in the province at ninety two point four percent.

Other destinations in the province, however, reported more moderate figures. Jávea recorded an occupation rate of eighty two point seven percent, Alcoy at seventy nine percent, Guardamar del Segura at seventy one percent, and Orihuela at sixty eight point nine percent. At the lower end of the scale, Santa Pola reached sixty two point three percent, El Campello at fifty eight point nine percent, Algorfa at forty nine point two percent, and Villena at a mere twenty three percent.

International tourism has dominated the demand, accounting for seventy percent of total visitors compared to thirty percent from national tourists. Among foreign visitors, British tourists made up the largest group at twenty four point two percent, followed by Norwegians and French tourists at six point five percent each, Polish tourists at five point six percent, and Irish and Swedish tourists each at five point four percent.

Looking ahead, the forecasts for June remain optimistic. The Provincial Association of Hotels and Tourist Apartments anticipates occupancy rates to exceed figures from the previous year, estimating around eighty five percent based on current booking trends. Specifically, for the Hogueras de San Juan festivities, reservations are already at eighty four point four percent for the peak days from June twentieth to twenty fifth. With the inclusion of a holiday weekend this year, demand is expected to rise, with estimates suggesting occupancy could reach close to ninety percent during celebrations in twenty twenty five.
