This morning in Cartagena, a local police officer heroically rescued a woman with reduced mobility from a residential fire. The incident took place in a building on Ramón y Cajal Street. At eight zero three, the emergency services received a call alerting them to smoke billowing from a first-floor window. Lorenzo Montoro, a worker from Barbero Moving Company, alerted emergency services after noticing the smoke while preparing for a move next door.

As police officers arrived, they discovered the woman was trapped inside the burning property. Acting swiftly, the officer and Montoro collaborated to use a lifting platform from the moving truck to rescue her through a window. The timely intervention ensured the woman was brought to safety before firefighters could control the blaze.

Firefighters later managed the scene, rescuing two pets—a dog and a cat—who were also inside the flat. Both the rescued woman and the police officer were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to Santa Lucía hospital. The cat was also taken to a veterinary hospital for treatment.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the National Police as they assess the situation surrounding this distressing event.
