Local police in Almoradí have apprehended a man riding an electric scooter during the early hours of the morning in a pedestrian zone where such vehicles are prohibited. When officers signalled him to stop, the rider ignored their request and attempted to flee. However, he was intercepted just a few streets away from the initial stop.

Upon identification, officers noted a strong smell of alcohol emanating from the rider. After administering a breathalyser test, the results confirmed positive for alcohol consumption. Additionally, he claimed that the electric scooter was not his, leading to the vehicle being immobilised by authorities.

The police have reiterated that electric scooters, or VMPs as they are formally known, must adhere to traffic regulations. This includes being subjected to the same alcohol and drug controls as any other motor vehicle.

The local police are reminding the public that disregard for road safety laws can have serious consequences, urging all users of electric scooters to comply with traffic rules to ensure the safety of everyone on the road.
