The town of Torrevieja will be the focus of international lifesaving from the second to the fourth of May, hosting the thirteenth Spanish Open. Organised by the Spanish Lifesaving and Rescue Federation, this event will gather five hundred sixty-five lifesavers at the Municipal Sports City Pool. This year marks a record participation, with representatives from twelve autonomous communities and international competitors from Hong Kong, Ireland, and the Netherlands.

Among the five hundred sixty-five participants, three hundred and seven will compete in the men’s category while two hundred and fifty-eight will compete in the women’s category. The competition will feature athletes across three age divisions: youth, junior, and absolute, with a total of one hundred seventy-five teams participating. The Valencian Community will contribute the largest contingent, followed by Castilla-La Mancha and Galicia.

The competition not only highlights international talent but also reinforces Spain’s role as a leader in the sport of lifesaving. Alongside the championship, the event is supported by local entities including the Generalitat Valenciana, the Town Hall of Torrevieja, and the Alicante Provincial Council. It aims to further enhance the visibility and promotion of lifesaving as a competitive sport.

The event is expected to attract significant attention, showcasing national talent and fostering international partnerships in one of the most prominent lifesaving events of the season.
