The José Carreras Avenue in the La Hoya macro-urbanisation has officially opened to traffic. This new roadway, approximately one kilometre long, improves communication between the CV-905, a primary access route to Torrevieja, and the northeastern urban area of the city. Although Mayor Eduardo Dolón had aimed for an Easter opening, delays occurred, leading to the opening just last Friday without any official announcement from the local government.

Prior to the opening, the Town Hall ensured that road signs and speed control measures were adequately installed to facilitate safety. Safety Councillor Federico Alarcón noted that this was a partial reception of the project, with plans for further developments in the sector post-summer. The new avenue had been closed for over a year, following the closure of a popular route known as the ‘goat path’ due to construction work on a major urban development project.

The previous closure had resulted in significant traffic problems, prompting the local government to introduce an alternative route that traversed several residential areas. The new avenue is expected to alleviate congestion, particularly on the final stretch of the CV-905, which sees an average of thirty-five thousand vehicles daily. It will also facilitate access to the northern beaches of Torrevieja and nearby areas.

While the avenue is officially open, some technical issues remain, particularly regarding an overhead electrical line that has created caution for drivers. Additionally, the new road features multiple crossings and roundabouts, increasing safety and traffic capacity compared to the earlier route. Further infrastructure developments, including modifications to a bridge, are expected in the future as part of the ongoing urbanisation project.
