Spain’s General Directorate of Traffic has activated its special May Day operation, with 791,844 journeys expected on roads across the Valencian Community. Nationwide, more than six million trips are forecast over the holiday period.

The operation began on Wednesday afternoon and will remain in place until midnight on Sunday. Traffic officers aim to maintain smooth traffic flow and strengthen road safety during one of the busiest getaway weekends of the spring.

In Alicante province, the main pressure points are expected on the A-70, particularly at access and exit points around Alicante city, and on the N-332 near Altea, El Altet-Santa Pola and Torrevieja. Although overall mobility is predicted to fall by 16.8%, journeys to coastal and mountain tourist areas, campsites and second homes are set to increase.

The Government Delegate in the Valencian Community, Pilar Bernabé, has urged drivers to exercise caution and respect traffic regulations. The DGT has also reminded motorists that the V16 warning beacon is mandatory in the event of a breakdown or incident, helping to signal vehicles quickly and reduce further risks.
